Black Forest/Colmar Pocket

We began this day with a bus ride through the Black Forest, stopping at a cuckoo clock shop, then winding through beautiful farms and forests. We spent the afternoon touring a WWII area known as the Colmar Pocket, where a prolonged battle took place, including the portion for which Audie Murphy became decorated. There was a small but excellent WWII museum in Turckheim that illustrated some of the living situations for soldiers on both sides. There was an expressed appreciation in this area for what the Allied Forces had done to liberate them.

This day was overcast and rainy, making for difficulty taking pictures. Many pictures were taken through a green bus window and required extensive photo manipulations to be somewhat acceptable.
